Inspired by the "Robber Baron" lantern, bronze sculpture by Studio Job from 2008, this decidedly simpler version, 85 cm high, is a reduced version of the historical icon of Studio Job. "Empire" expresses the charm that Job feels for the monuments and their meaning. "It talks about the meaning of the iconic buildings of our culture and the power that resides in these buildings and monuments", explains Job Smeets, "in this piece, strongly referential but profoundly different architectural styles merge". From the Panthenon in Athens based on the Empire State Building in New York, to the Capitol Building in Washington at the top.
